BMW Repair: 87 bmw 325ic will not start, piston rings, fuel regulator

Question
my 87 bmw 325ic will crank, but not start.  It is getting spark, so it's not in the electrical.  I replaced the fuel filter, and think that the fuel pump is working ok.  any suggestions?
Thanks, Bob

Answer
Dear Bob,
Make sure that fuel pressure (approximately 35 to 45 psi)is available at the fuel rail/fuel regulator. Make sure also that the spark is strong at the plugs. Oftentimes a bad coil which provides insufficient juice would result in a no start. If there is fuel to the injectors and spark going to the plugs, then you might have loose compression(bad piston rings/loose pistons/bad valves) or bad timing (wornout  timing chain).
