BMW Repair: Transmission cold shift 1-2, cold shift, bmw 325i

Question
"1989 BMW 325i - recent replacement with factory rebuild auto trans. Does not shift from 1-2 until 3500-4000 rpm when cold (during initial take off from setting overnight or at work all day). Works fine once car has been driven couple of miles. Repair shop has adjusted kickdown cable. Any ideas?"

Answer
Dan, It sounds like an internal hydraulic pressure issue. I don't know much about older cars. If the car has a trans control module (doubtful) it may need to be programmed or have the adaptations reset. Again E30 car I don't think so. Did the previous trans. do this? I would have the dealer look it over an be sure to leave it there for a cold start so they can duplicate it. If it is a factory trans. then they should be able to determine if it was improper install or give a 'parts warranty' if it was purchased there.
