BMW Repair: rear driving lights 325i 1989, ok lighting, 12 volt

Question
one rear light won't work, bulb is still good, fuse is good. brake lights work and
indicator lights work. any ideas? thanks

Answer
Dear Azia,
If you are sure that the bulb concerned is still OK, lighting up when inserted in other sockets, and does not have a melting contact at its bottom, then take a look at the socket itself.
The socket may have pitted/corroded contacts, or simply loose and therefore needs adjustment of the contacts. If they are good, then check if there is power going to it by checking with a voltmeter/multimeter or buy a cheap 12 volt tester from Sears or Home Depot. Check both power and ground to socket of bad light. If none, check wiring from working
parklight on other side to the non-working side (they are connected and may have been cut somehow).
This is an easy job for anybody. All you need is a little patience, sharp eyes and common sense.
Have a nice weekend.
