BMW Repair: engine oil, oil filler cap, valve cover gasket

MY 1989 525i is leaking engine oil. It is leaking pretty bad. We put 2 quarts in and it leaked it all in a matter of a few feet. Engine oil crwl said. engine oil low.
Please help me find out why it is leaking so much.

Dear Danny,
Before I can tell you why, and how to stop or minimize the oil leak, you should tell me first where the leak is coming from.
Front, rear, left or right ,lower or upper, oil filter housing, bell housing, crankcase gasket, valve cover gasket?
First to check of course is the oil filler cap at the top of the engine, then the oil filter cover.
And when you said it leaked it all in a matter of a few feet, did it do so as soon as you started the engine?
If oil is currently splattered all over and you are having difficulty localizing the leak, then clean it first, add more oil and re-start the engine.
Then get back to me.
