Question -
I just had the power seat cable repaired on the passenger seat 530i 2002.  Now the driver's side is out.  How can I fix it myself?  This car nickle and dimes me to death, but I love the handling.

Answer -
d Hauptli, You have it figure out what is faulty. The Module, Motor, Drive Cables, or seat rails. Do you have power and ground at the motor when you push the switch. Tap the motor with a small hammer, does it start to work?

The drive cable is the problem, power and rais and motor are ok.  Inner cable issue.  How to repair?

Answer
D, Raise the seat up as high as it will go and move seat back forward to it's limit. In the front of the seat rail just above the connector housing is the pivot bar that rotates when the seat is raised or lowered. Remove the torx bolts at either end. Raise the front of the seat free but not all the way back yet. Feed the wire loom for the seat belt buckle out of the plastic support. Remove the connector to longitudinal seat adjustment motor assembly. Remove mounting nuts. Cut defective drive cable with bolt cutters or a saw. If you need to remove the opposite sides gear you can. Replace any components you deem damaged or defective. Reinstall. Please put a little thread locker compound on the torx bolts in front because they are exposed to lateral forces, weight, and vibration. Please fill out a follow up survey if this helps.
