BMW Repair: Regarding my 97 BMW 528i Thanks, bmw 528i, diagnostic report

Question
Hi,

I have 1997 bmw 528i it has about 118K on it right not, when i bought it 3 months ago it had 117K it wouldn't tell me how much gas it has the gas guage needle stays at completly empty point and it  wouldn't also tell me the temperature of the car but the needle for temperature when you start the car would up to red hot and then gradually would come down all the way and after 5 to 10 mins it would go back and forth and sometimes would stop at the point which is between the middle and and cold ( it wouldnt really go in to middle.  yesterday I was driving and i saw steam comming out of the engine i stopped the car right away and when I opened the Hood it was comming really fast and was comming from the right side (in front of the driver's seat) under a big black pipe. ( if you want i could send you a picture of the engine pointing you exactly where its comming from) Another thing i wanted to mention since I bought the car i was using the A/C but almost never used the heat but when I try to sent the temp to 90 it would blow hot air.  It was blowiong hot air only when you would turn on the front defrost but i realized it stoped while i was driving before the car heated up.  I also had driver's heated seat turned on when the car heated up.  i am sorry if i got you confused But i am just tooooo worried about it since I got this car after a alot of effort and I dont want to lose it by any cost.  could you tell me whats wrong with it and how much do you think its gone cost I reside in NY.

thank you very very much

Answer
Asad, please pick a complaint you would like me to address and I will help you. It is not fair to others or myself to try to help you with four different problems at once. I recomend that you take the car to the dealer and pay one hours labor for diagnosis of the overheat condition you described as that is the most serious issue and be sure you get a copy of the complete diagnostic report with fault descriptions of the car's memories and report back to me.
