BMW Repair: 323 Inspection Light, pollen filter, bmw 323

Question
Hi Paul,

I have a BMW 323 2000 model.  It has 45K miles and I just got an oil change from the dealership.  A few weeks later, the inspection light came on.  The dealer told me that the inspection service is going to cost me $600.  Is this procedure service?  Do you know what this "inspection" covers?

Thanks,
Melissa

Answer
Inspection service is a routine maintenance item. Basically all that is done is an oil change, replace the pollen filter for the heat and a/c system, and inspect the entire vehicle for any items that may require attention, and reset the light. the service is mostly made up of labor, i think it's about 4 hours of labor. ask them what they plan to do during the service and a breakdown of the costs. the dealer should have told you when you had the oil change that you were going to require an inspection service soon because that indicator counts down the mileage until service is needed. if you do get the service done, ask them not to change the oil because it was just done.
