BMW Repair: Air Conditioning, sight glass, air dam

Question
Good Morning!
I just found this site by surfing for BMW technical advice.

I have 2 issues right now with my 89 325IX.

1. The air conditioner does not blow cold. It appears that the compressor is coming on and I only see a few very small bubbles in the sight glass. I did have an AC part replaced 2 years ago that is located behind the front bumper and the front air dam. Forget what is is called.
Any ideas what else I can check? It still uses R12 freon.
2. Once in a while, the car will go into a very fast idle (over 6,000rpm) with no warning. All you can do is shut it down and let it sit a few minutes. It seems to happen only when the car is warm and when you start the car and you are parked, that is, not when you are going down the road. This has been happening for several years but only once every couple months, including yesterday. This is my wife's car, so I am trying to explain this second hand since it happens to her. Any clues?

Thanks in advance for any advise and/or help you may have.

John

Answer
Chances are the freon is low but i can't say anything without knowing the operateing pressures.  as for the high idle, the only way you could possibly diagnose this would be to check a few components while this is occuring, or plug the car in and get the codes to see whats occuring.
