GMC Repair: 2003 Sononma rear end leak, cab 4x4, pinion nut

Question
My 2003 Sonoma SLS Crew Cab 4x4 has just developed a leak in the rear end between the driveshaft and the differential. My truck is a V6 4.3L.This is my daily driver and just noticed it being wet around the differential. Wondering how much is involved to fix kind of a handyman or should I just take it to mechanic?

Answer
Hi
I am sure it sounds like the rear pinion seal. My advise, if you never done one before, I would just take it and let someone replace it. It's pretty easy and straight forward, however if you over tighten the pinion nut, the potential is there get the pinion to ring gear out of adjustment.
