GMC Repair: fuel pump, side kick panel, chevy cavalier

Question
Hello! I actually have a chevy cavalier 2002 z24. I thought my fuel pump went out, but I replaced it with a new one and I've figured out through a series of events, that i'm not getting power to the pump! There is actually a harness that is green in color that is a female between the male harness that lead to the fuel pump harness at the body. The opposite harness is blue in color, another male, and leads so far up the dash I can't see where it goes. (maybe to the fuse box) Here's the kicker. This part was all burnt up and left char marks on my carpet! It's located on drivers side kick panel. I replaced this and tried to start the car again. (Car will only run if you spray starting fluid into it the whole time.) I do get power to my fuel gauge, which is connected to the same harness. I know some models don't have a fuel cutoff, but a lot of people sell this part for my car! I don't know exactly where it is, i've looked in the trunk and passenger kick panel, but no luck. All my fuses are okay, and my relay is ok....what else could I have going on here? AND where is this darn cutoff if there is one? Thank you so much!

Answer
there is no fuel cutoff that i am aware of, i would thoroughly check the wiring harness that you state was burned to make sure all the wires are correctly repaired, just because the fuel gauge is working does not mean that the fuel pump is working.  Check the wiring from inside the car all the way to the tank, also pay close attention to the pass through connector, where the wiring leaves the inside of the car and comes out underneath, look closely at the terminals for corrosion or burning
