GMC Repair: 1998 GMC Jimmy A/C Replacement, gmc jimmy, expansion device

Question
QUESTION: I want to replace the entire A/C system in my Jimmy.  Can I do this on my own and take it to a certified shop to have if recharged?  I was looking online for the parts and found a kit that included "all 5 parts".  This is what they have listed for parts, "The kit includes 5 new parts; including our brand new compressor, new receiver drier, new expansion device, new bottle of premium oil and vehicle specific complete O-Ring kit."  This is through www.discountacparts.com.  The kit sells for $265.  Is that a good prices verses paying over $600 at a shop to do the entire job?  I want to know if this is what I need?  My A/C doesn't work since it only blows hot air and the compressor makes a lot of grinding noise.  Where does the oil go into, the compressor?  Is there a website I can get a free manual or instructions on how to install?  I believe it comes with it, but I want to see what it all entails before I try to tackle this myself.  Let me know what you can help me with or direct me to the correct place if you can't.  Thanks for your time!

ANSWER: there is not much out there in the way of online service manuals that are free.  THe only concern I would have is that if there is a leak in the system at the EVAP core or condensor, as for the oil it goes in the back of the compressor before you install it onto the truck, you will have to drain the old one to know how much to put back in the new one

QUESTION: If it is confirmed the EVAP core and condensor have no issues, it this a do-it-yourself job?  I did read something about flushing the system.  What does that all involve?  I also read to keep the old o-rings and new o-rings labeled to get the correct ones in.  What is an estimated cost to recharge a system?

Answer
a rough estimate would be around $75.00, it is somewhat of a do it yourself job, however I would not suggest running the vehicle without refrigerant in it, as it does have some lubricating properties and it would suck if you just spent your time and money installing a new compressor only to blow it up.
