Hyundai: Parking brake wont release, parking brake cable, parking brakes

Question
I put my car in a storage garage, then came to get 3 weeks later.  I released the parking brake inside the car (the lever is down and the light turned off), but the brake itself did not release.  I've tried backing up numerous times, but the car only rocks a little bit.  Any suggestions?  thanks

Answer
Hi Eric, well a parking brake cable which is used for a long period of time may rust or seize, so that the brake will not be able to be actuated when it is eventually desired to do so.
1. Make sure your car is turned off and your parking brake IS engaged and your clutch is UP.
2. Put your car in first gear or neutral.
3. Pump your FOOT breaks about 5 times.
4.Turn your car on and then wait until you see the brake light in dash computer turn for 10 seconds.
5.Release the hand break clutch down with your foot on the breaks.
6.put car in reverse and slowly take your foot off breaks.

Try those steps at least 3 times and if it still dont work then
you will need to check the parking brake cable. If you choose to do it yourself, then make sure that when you lift the car up with the jack that you don't lift up the braking wheel. Usaully the rear wheels are the ones that are stopped with parking brakes.
