GMC Repair: 2001 Sonoma A/C quit, compressor clutch, mechanic shop

Question
Saturday I was driving the truck and the A/C was blowing very cold (have never had a problem before, all of a sudden it started warming up. I was at my buddys shop and next door is a mechanic shop, we opened the hood and the compressor was not cycling, the guy brought his gauges out and as soon as he hooked up the gauges, it kicked in and started blowing cold. He said all of the pressures were acceptable. I headed home and 10 minutes later it stopped blowing cold again, after a few it got cold again, then warm. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi
I would think of a few things to check
The low side pressure cycling switch MAY be occasionally sticking open.
The compressor clutch coil may not have enough pull down force as it has had in the past.
You can check for power to the clutch while this is happening.
If hot all the time, the clutch coil is faulty.
If there is no power I would (first) suspect the Low side switch.
You can LIGHTLY tap on the low side switch when not cycling. If the compressor comes on, the switch is PROBABALLY the fault.
Also you could tap the compressor clutch and see if it comes on. This would probabally be the clutch coil.
I really hope this helps.
If more help needed, please feel free to follow post back.
Good Luck
