GMC Repair: 2000 GMC Denali inside drivers door handle broken, gmc yukon denali, gmc denali

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2000 GMC  Yukon Denali.  The door handle on the inside of the drivers door is broken or disconnected in some way.  It flops outward and feels like it is completely unattached. How can I remove the door panel to repair or replace it?
ANSWER: Hi
Is this the Old style Denali? Does it have a 350 5.7L Vortec engine? Is the 8th digit of the VIN an "R"
If so PLEASE post a follow back and I'll post the repair instructions.
All I need to know is the 8th digit of the VIN.
Thanks
Paul

Answer
Hi Remove the trim piece surrounding the inside door handle (4 clips). Remove window switch/mirror switch/tweeter speaker assembly by inserting a SMALL thin blade screwdriver underr the rear of assembly and pull up from rear to front. Then turn over and unplug all connectors.
Remove the 2 screws in the hand pull area of panel.
unclip the mirror trim piece. Then unclip all clips holding door panel to door (10 or 12) They are VERY agressive clips on ths door they'll make a loud snapping noise sounds like they are breaking. Some MAY break also.
After all clips removed, gently pull up on panel to release it from top window channel.
You'll then see handle. Drill out 1 rivet then slide handle oul. remove the door handle rod and the lock rod from old handle.
Install new handle and panel opposite as removal.
you can just use a screw in place of rivet if unavalible.
Just suggestions from experience.
If in doubt, take it to a repair facility your familiar with for additional help.
Good Luck
Paul
