Auto Insurance Claims: I rear ended someone and then someone rear ended me, own insurance, collision coverage

Question
I rear ended someone and then someone rear ended me, and I'm not sure how to proceed.  Minor damage, and no injuries.  Police cited me and the driver behind me.  Do I need to call my insurance company to let them know that I hit someone, or will they contact me after after the person I hit files a claim with their own insurance company?  I only have liability, so I won't be filing a claim of my own for the damage to my vehicle that was a result of me hitting someone.  And also since I only have liability, do I deal directly with the insurance company of the person who hit me regarding the damage they they caused to my vehicle?

Answer
Hi John,

You should report the accident to your insurance company. They will handle the damage to the rear of the vehicle that you hit. You will need to contact the insurance company of the vehicle that hit you in the rear to handle that damage. You of course, will be responsible for the damage to the front of your car since you have no collision coverage.

I hope this helps
