GMC Repair: serpentine belt noise, gmc safari, serpentine belt

Question
I have a 2000 GMC Safari 4.3L. I have a severe belt noise all the time. I have had the belt replace 3 times and it's good for a day or two. The tensioner has been replaced twice and I'm sure it's not a bearing noise. Nothing seems to be getting on the belt. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Hi
I would have a guess at a few things.
First and most least expensive would be to again replace belt and use an OEM GM Belt. IF you have done this to make absolute sure it is the belt, you can put a squeeze of RTV sealant on the belt. (Just a small dab on the flat and ribbed side) If the squeek stops, it is a belt problem.
I would venture a guess I have seen a few times on the 4.3 is the power steering pump. For some reason they make a loud squeeking noise that sounds exactly like a belt.
Also have your mechanic make sure all the pulleys for all the belt driven accessories are straight and in line. If, say as example the Alternator, is not in line with the rest of the accessories, it bends the belt and can create a noise prematurally.
These are just suggestions from experience.
Hope it helps
