Chevrolet Repair: oil - oil pump drive assembly, finger tool, drive assembly

Question
I an chasing a oil leek and it seems to be coming for the back of the engine at the oil pump drive assembly. This is a 1994 Camaro 6 cyl. Is this a common problem? I have tried to remove the drive assembly, in the manual it shows one bolt on a clamp and then say take it out but it does not seem to want to come out.

Answer
Hi Russ, Yes this is a very common leak. They now use a different type of rubber for the 0 ring. The old type becomes very hard and shrinks causing the leak. To remove the drive I use a 6 inch lady finger tool and a hammer to hit it in between the two pieces. It does come out hard, don't worry about nicking the surface of either parts because the 0 ring does the sealing. You can file the drive smooth when you get it out.

Hope this helps
