GMC Repair: 97 GMC 4x4 vortec 350 automatic (fuel system), gmc 4x4, head gaskets

Question
Hello, and thanks for being there.  Not to sound stupid but I have to know what the box under the hood of the truck is, in it there are sensors or funny looking fuses, the one that is conected to my fuel pump is messed up, under it and around it is has become hot the plastic is burnt looking, It stalled on me the other day I wiggled the thing and the fuel pump noise started again and it started right up.  I have put several fuel pumps in this truck, I use good gas so that isn't an issue, It has always been load also, is there a problem with the fuel system in these trucks.  What is the part called I need and how much do yo thing it is to fix it and can I do it?  My husband has his own vehicle and doesn't like to get greasy so my truck just sits there sick and it is making me sick.  One more thing if yo don't care, I have put 2 engines in this truck, they have gone bad the 1st one was a new on this one is out of a used vehicle, the head gaskets went out of the 1st one.  I am very careful to service my vehicles so I don't know how this can happen and I don't want it to happen again.  Thanks hope you can help me.  Linda Grover
