        my power steering went out on my 02 gmc denali. would the steering wheel position sensor cause this or is the pump bad
Answer -
Most cases the pump is bad and it requires a SPECIAL PULLER/INSTALLER to remove the PULLEY from the PUMP or you WILL BEND the pulley if you use the WRONG TOOLS.

IF memory serves this sensor just tells the computer in what position the wheels are pointed in so as to raise the engines engine speed via the computer to compensate for the strain of the pump pressure so as to prevent the engine speed from dropping to low.
