GMC Repair: 90 Chevy Camaro RS, chevy camaro, vacuum line

Question
I have a 90 Chevy Camaro RS with a 3.1 V-6 engine that is having a problem.  I had to have the timing chain replaced about 3 weeks ago because it completely snapped.  The car has been shifting hard into first gear but all the other gears were fine in shifting and did so smoothly.  When we had it out on the road and we got the car to 55 mph and it ran very smoothly but then the car started to sound as if it was shifting out of gear and then back into the right gear.  Like the engine would sound normal and then would go low and you could feel the car kind of slow up a bit, and then it was fine again.  Could this be something with my transmission or the timing chain?  Any help, tips or advice would be appreciated.  Also not sure if this is related or not but the car sometimes stalls when first shifted into gear and then there were a few times that we were sitting at a stop sign and the car just died, it didn't chug or show any sign at all that the engine was about to cut off, it was like someone just turned off the key.

Answer
mechanical work or ANY kind of work that has been performed on the vehicle recently where most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as a vacuum line may have been knocked loose or a wire connection came loose. Look around in the area where work was performed..

Also check the fluid level of the transmission.

Also see if the trand fluid has a BURNT smell to it or is much DARKER in color than normal as this would be a sign of internal transmission problems.

Your stalling problem is most likely caused by a blackish residue that tends to build up around the throttle plate area of which can be cleaned off using a spray type cleaning agent available at most any auto parts store. ask the counter person for help in selecting the correct spray product.
