GMC Repair: 98 blazer stalls, crankshaft sensor, throwing darts

Question
about a week ago my 1998 blazer lost power while i was driving along the tach droped to around 700 rpm and it was making sounds like it was predetonating so i shut it off. as i stoped it shot smoke through the breather. when i tried to start it it would not start someone told me to readjust what i now know as the cruse controll cable witch is located right next to the throdle cable whel it worked the beast started sooo since then this has happened 5-8 times again and most of the time it worked... untill last week when nothing i did worked so the frend recomended to replace the throdle sensor so i did it ran farther but stoped again so i fiddled with the cruze cable again and it started so the replacement dart landed on cam sensor but with no response sorry this is so long but i have a scan tool commin but i dont think with all my bumbling it will find the real problem do you have any ideas or am i just throwing darts

Answer
Your JUST GUESSING.

OK, First you need to determine IF your problem is IGNITION failure or FUEL failure.

When it quits and you try to start it are you getting any ignition to the spark plugs ?.

I have to print this one for my "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT BOOK".

Adjusting the cruise cable, For WHAT ?. Maybe swapping the tires might be a better solution. JUST KIDDING. This GUESSING is getting expense, YES ?.

My thoughts are either CRANKSHAFT SENSOR or FUEL PUMP of which is WHY I need to know IF you have ignition to the spark plugs as soon as it quits and you try and restart it.

Let me know.
