Question -
I'm trying to replace my alternator. How do you loosen the belt in order to remove/install the alternator? Do you have pictures and or instructions?
Answer -
About all I know about your vehicle is that it is a GMC. As for YEAR-make-engine and other necessary information I am at a loss.

I have a 1993 GMC Jimmy with a 4.3 Vortec engine with air conditioning and automatic transmission.

Answer
Locate the large round metal BELT TENSIONER that has a pulley attached to it and using a suitable wrench or other, lift UP on the tensioner and the belt will start to get loose. The tensioner is internally spring loaded so you have to get pressure on it all the time when lifting it up.

CAUTION: Make SURE that you make a hand drawing of the belt configuration of how it goes around the different components. You will NOT remember how to re-install the new one if you DO NOT make a drawing.
