GMC Repair: 1994 GMC Jimmy, electric fuel pump, gmc jimmy

Question
Hello,

I would really appreciate any help you may be able to lend to me.  My 1994 GMC Jimmy has just recently started having problems.  After it has been sitting off for a while. overnight or for more than a couple of hours for example.  it has problems starting.  It has recently had a tune up but that didn't fix the problem.  It turns over strong but will not fire.  Usually after about 2 or 3 quick tries to get it to fire up, it does.  then It runs fine.  Only the first or second times that I try to turn it on does it not fire.  Again, after it does fire up, it runs like a champ.

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks,
shane ede

ps.  It has had problems with the egr valve previously.  I have been adding sea foam to the gas once every couple of months to help with that.

thanks.

Answer
PLEASE do not put SEA FOAM or any of that MECHANIC-IN-A-CAN into anything on your vehicle. rarely does it do what it claims to do. The ONLY additive that I use and suggest is a bottle of DRY GAS every other month in the fuel tank when you go to fill the tank. This helps to braek up any condensation that naturally occurs in every vehicles gas tank over time.

You are going to have to find out if you have a lack of IGNITION or a LACK of fuel at the times of intermittent starting before we can even start to diagnose the problem.

The only possibility that comes to mind and has been a problem with GM vehicles is that at about 60,000 to 80,000 miles the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank starts to intermittently cease to operate. This can go on for days, weeks or even months until one day the vehicle won't start at all.

Let me know.
