Acura Repair: re: changing HID headlight in 2000 3.2TL, battery cables, shock hazard

Question
I need to change a headlight on my 2000 3.2 TL.  The manual says have it done by a factory trained repair person due to the massive voltage used by the lamp.  If I remove the battery cables prior to removing the lamp is there still a shock hazard?  I assume there is no capacitor or anything.  After I remove the battery cables and I turn my light on and off I want to be sure there is no residualy charge in the lamp assembly.

  Thanks,

Answer
Hi Bill,

Think of it like an old style TV with a capacitor even if you try to turn on the TV the power will still stay in the capacitor. If you still want to change the light I recommend wearing rubber gloves and just take your time changing the bulbs. Or leave the negative cable unplugged over night, by dawn the capacitor should be drained.

Thanks,
Daniel
