Alfa Romeo Repair: Alfa Romeo 145 Boxer 1996 1.4, lambda sensor, alfa romeo 145

Question
Some updates, the mechanic has changed a new lambda sensor.

Today, when i turn the ignition switch (without starting the engine), other than the oil pressure and battery lights, the injector warning light also come on for a few seconds before going off. Is this normal?

After that, I took the car for a 30 min drive and it seem like the injector warning light does not come on as often as before under load. However, it did came on briefly for a few seconds during acceleration on a slope.

What else go be faulty since i've already changed the lambda sensor? Could it be fuse and relays?

Dear Stephen

Thanks for your reply. The car was brought to the garage and it doesn't show any fault codes.

However, I can now pinpoint a little bit more on the behaviour of the car. It seems like the injection warning light comes on after driving about 20-30 mins. After that, when I park my car, shut the engine and try to start again, it starts to crank and could not start properly. It need some gas in order to start again. This doesn't happen often, but sometimes.

In addition, when i was driving and stops on the stop-lights, the idle speed of the car seem to be changing and the injection lights comes on as well. i wonder if this is related.

Lastly, when on 1st or 2nd gear, the acceleration did not go smoothly.

Could you pinpoint the exact component that is faulty?

Hi Stephen, As recommended by you, i have send the car to the garage to have all the cables near the battery checked. As far as i know, the mechanic, took out the battery cables and reconnected everything ok. i guess the computer will rest itself?

However, i found out a problem. i accidently start up the engine when the injection warning light and key code was on. The car couldn't startup again. It took be a few tries and a little press on the accelerator to start it. Is this normal?

Secondly, i found out during driving, especially when the RPM is high and on first gear. The injection warning light seem to come on, after that it disappear. it doesn't happen often.

I am very afraid that the car will stall during the highway again. Should i send it to the authorised alfa dealer to do a diagnostic check?

Thanks!

Not normal and you probably have a fuel supply problem.  It would be good to have the Alfa dealer check it.

I could pinpoint the problem if I was there with the car.  I would test the throttle position switch, the maf sensor connections and clean the sensor. But, I would be most interested in the fuel pump--I suspect that is the problem but it needs to be checked by someone knowledgeable about electrics.

Answer
Your mechanic does not like you telling him what to do. However, it is now time to clean all the ground connections on the vehicle. This can be time consuming. You must take out the bolt or nut and clean with a brush and/or wd-40 and then put it back together. These grounds are under the dash and in the engine compartment. I would also at this time reroute the ground for the fuel pump to the body at the pump.

This must be done because otherwise you will keep changing parts until a good connection is made.
