Alfa Romeo Repair: Alfa 166 alarm system. Manual shut off?, alfa 166, alarm system

Question
I drive an Alfa 166. I realize you don't have them in the U.S. but
perhaps you keep abreast of things. When entering the car I push
the button on the key to unlock the doors and disarm the alarm
system. However, if I were to open the door by using the key only,
the alarm would sound. Other than the button on the key, I haven't
a clue how to turn it off. And since there is no indicator on the key
of when the battery is getting low, I have to always wonder when
the battery will die, I'll have to use the key, have the alarm go off,
and have no idea of how to turn it off. Is this a typical Italian screw
up on a brilliant car or have I overlooked something?

Answer
This is fairly standard in the USA. If you lock it with the remote you have to unlock it the same way or the horn continues to sound--bugs me no end and glad none of my vehicles have this "feature".

See if the dealer can reprogram the system for you.
