Alfa Romeo Repair: Milano Verde Over Heats, aluminum radiator, rubber cushions

Question
Dear Stephen,

My Milano has always gone into over-heat runaway mode on hot days if I get stuck idling in traffic, even with AC disconnected, hood insulation removed, new radiator, new thermostat.  Even with the cooling fan running, and AC off, the car cannot maintain constant temperature when idling.  My only successful fix has been to leave the car home on hot days. I live in the northern midwest.

Have I missed something?  Do I need a more powerful radiator fan?

Regards,
BT

Answer
Put the hood insulation back on. A vent hole in the hood on the side can help. But, what you really need is a Griffen two row
aluminum radiator available at summitracing.com.  I have found the Griffen to be the best of the bunch.

An aluminum radiator has an amazing heat transfer compared to
copper.

You will have to cut a little sheet metal and rest the end caps
on rubber cushions on the bottom and lightly brace at the top
with an L or U bracket. One of the original fans should mount
to the aluminum bracing (not through the fins). Or get Summits
fan that attaches at the edge trim.
