American Motors: amc pacer front disc brake conversion, disc brake conversion, amc pacer

Question
Hi Kevin, I have a 1953 Chevy pickup with a AMC pacer front end. I thought it was a 1978 but through my research i have discovered that AMC used disc brakes in 1978 so it must be a bit earlier front end possibly 1975 or 76. is there any way to tell what year it is - does it even matter? Do u know of anyone who might carry a full kit for the pacer? what cars can i use as a doner car? what is the most economical way to go new or used. American Parts Depot has one but the guy was not very helpful. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated, i have been looking all over for an expert on these vehicals. thanks for your time. Dave

Answer
Pacer front ends were the same from 75 up. They did, however, use different make calipers.
75-76 were the same, 77 up were the same. You can use any Pacer for a donor car, but only a Pacer as they have unique suspension design and components. Try calling Collier AMC in Pikeville, NC at 919-242-4462. Ask for Mr. Collier. They are an old AMC dealer and have many parts vehicles on their lot.
