American Motors: Fuel indicator in 1982 AMC EAGLE, amc eagle, gas gauge

Vehicle is in excellent condition with 53,000 miles. Dash fuel indicator is now stuck on "full". Is problem with dash indicator or with gauge in fuel tank.Where are parts available ?

Disconnct the wire at the tank from the sending unit. If the gas gauge goes down, replace the sending unit in the tank. If it doesn't, check the wire for a short to ground. If there is no short, remove the instrument cluster and check the gauge. If there is a short,, disconnect the instrument cluster and see if the wire is shorted.
Check online for an AMC parts vendor. Concord parts will also work.
