QUESTION: ok, will the water jackets line up?   and if I do how much boring would be necessary to accomodate these larger heads?  Thanks for your answers

Answer
After further investigation, the 360 heads will bolt up to your 304. Use the head gasket for the 360. This will not necessarily add horsepower, though, as the combustion chambers are larger.
The most common way to increase horsepower & torque is to change the camshaft. There are a number af different grinds that will fit your paticular application. Many cam companies offer free online help with finding the correct cam.
An aluminum intake, i.e. Edelbrock Performer, along with a 600-650 cfm carb would also help.
If you have more air going in, you need to get it out. A set of tubular headders and a low resriction exhaust system will complement the above modifications.
