American Motors: alternator, altenator, wire alternator

have a 1967 american 440 wagon,232 six,automatic
bought a one wire alternator not sure what wires to cap and stow.  

Answer
If your AMC came with a Motorola alternator, the wires should be:
Green, Orange, Red, & Black.
Green, Orange  & Black run to the regulator.
Red is the HOT or alternator output wire.
The Red wire is the one you would probably use on your new alternator, but never having used one before, I can't be 100% sure.
I recommend going to the altenator manufactuer's websight and see if they have a wiring schematic.
