Answer -
Jeep was made by AMC from February 1970 until Chrysler bought them out around 1978. As for your Jeep, look on the production lable located on the driver's door jamb. It will tell you if the vehicle was produced by American Motors Corp. For a few years after Chrysler purchased AMC, there were very little changes on the Jeeps. Hope this helps.

If the engine and transmission were maintained properly, they should be fairly reliable. The areas to check would be the transfer case for noises and fluid condition; the brakes, suspension and steering for wear. Body rust is not uncommon. The engine's weak spot is the lubrication system. Valve stem oil seal replacement is routine for high mileage AMC engines. Have a qualified technician check it out.
