Audio Systems: Head Unit General Question

I have never replaced ONLY the head unit in a vehicle.  In the past, I've done entire systems.. Now that I am older and no longer have the time, I just want to replace the head unit in my 2009 Civic (not premium audio) with an entry-level JVC that will do bluetooth and has USB input.

My concern is that it is an "old wives tale" that factory head units are underpowered and that I may actually get a lower quality of sound and lower RMS wattage from the entry-level JVC vs. the factory unit.

Do you have any experience with this particular radio?  Is this 'thinking' a thing of the past?? Is it no longer true?  Or was it never true -- in terms of aftermarket always being better than factory units.

some factory radios are better, look better and nobody want to steal them,
leave your civic in the parking lot at the movies and if they are its not safe it can cost you
a new radio a damage lock or a glass,
there are better ways to get more sound out of the factory radio, you can replace the speakers
maybe add a small 4 channel amplifier,
you can also add a USB iPod and Blue tooth interface to the factory radio,

I like this adapter,you can keep the Honda Civic radio and nothing its visible
but now you can stream all your music from iPod iPhone or Android devices, you can also make and receive phone calls ,
text and caller ID will be disply on Honda radio screen
