Audio Systems: reset, memory wire, sound cassette

Question
Hello - Don't laugh too hard after reading this.  I have a very old KRC 2006 installed in a very old 1985 Toyota Hi Lux 4/4 truck with nothing fancy just 4 plain Jane speakers - no amp, no sub, no crossover net work.  Problem I let wife drive truck. When she returned back, the unit turns on but has nothing on the display, no sound from speakers, but the non sound cassette controls operate. After, the obvious  ("What did you do to my radio?) question, she confessed she had left on the lights and someone had jumped her.   I drug out the unit, checked the fuse - it is good.  I saw no fuses for audio channels.  I searched the internet and my manual and the manual mentions "press the Reset Button". The only problem is they neglected to mention the location on this "magic button" and I have been unable to locate anyone that can find "Waldo".  Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. I have no great wealth of electronics knowledge but, I can offer some advice - if you are a man and have a something you enjoy - keep your wife away from it.

Answer

Hi Randy

Dual shafted, old-school headunit, eh?
If you cannot locate the reset button on the face of the unit it is probably on the side or back of the case. Of course, the latter means removing and re-installing the head.

That manual indeed mentions resetting the headunit but I cannot find a location for it in the manual, either.
Experience has shown that these buttons are 'very' small (1-2mm usually requiring a toothpick/straightened paper clip or a pin tool) and they are usually recessed (so they can be easily overlooked).

Give the front panel a good look over then (if that is fruitless) you will probably find it on the side or back of the unit.
If you could provide a high detail, close-up image of the face of the radio, I might be able to see it if the reset button is indeed located on the front panel.
*You may be able to pull the memory wire for a few minutes (with the ignition key off) and re-attach it to get it back to stock settings.

Regards and best of luck,
