Audio Systems: rear speaker removal, lexus es 330, bonding agents

Question
Cleggsan,
How do you remove the sub-woofer,which is mounted in the rear deck of a 2005 Lexus ES 330,it is making a sound like a screw is bouncing in the middle of the cone.

Answer
That sound is the classical audio foot-print of a loose voice coil. This condition is caused when the subwoofer is over driven for a long enough time so as to melt the bonding agents that keep the voice coil form and the voice coil together.  When they reach a certain temperature for a long  time they separate and that is the sound you heard.

There are two methods of correction.
ONE:  Replace the subwoofer with a new one.
TWO:  Have the subwoofer reconed/repaired by a speaker repair shop.

But, sorry, your question was how to get the subwoofer out!

THere is a good discussion about that in this forum chat:

It should answer your question.  If not, let me know further.
