Audio Systems: radio- fm station, chrysler sebring, antenna cable

Question
The radio in my Chrysler Sebring LTD will not play FM stations, only AM. Do you know what could be wrong with it? Also the cd player wont take the cd's and the lights in the buttons below just keep blinking.

Answer
Likely two separate problems.

FM:  The antenna may be not working or loose connection.  If it has a motorized antenna make sure it is coming up out of the car. Sometimes the motor will fail or the wire comes off or the fuse goes bad.  And, since it is usually the AM that does not work so good when the antenna system fails so in your case, too, it may be the antenna amplifying circuit or tuner inside the radio that needs service and/or repair.

CD Player:  Could be the mechanism is jammed or the electronic controls are not working.  It requires, probably,  service or repair.  Sometimes, if the car is getting along in years, it is cheaper to replace the whole system with an aftermarket radio and MP3 input to replace the cd player with a bigger bank of music titles.  Repairs can be quite expensive if the techs are required to pull the units out and bench test them.  If the car is quite new you are best off taking it to a qualified independent Chrysler repair facility (the car dealer is not a good place to go because they rarely have a radio/stereo specialist on staff).

Try wiggling the fm cable wires if you know how to get down under the dash where the antenna cable comes into the radio unit from the antenna.  If it is a loose or corroded cable connection this might wake it up...

Best wishes.
