Audio Systems: static on my 2010 Escape radio, fm sync, antenna connection

Question
New Escape Limited in Jan. AM/FM/Sync premium Sound radio has engine noise on weaker stations which almost disappears when engine is turned off. When driving in areas where my Mariner had no interference I am now getting excessive rfi intereference.  In distant areas even the FM gets some static. Ford says there is nothng wrong. Is there some filter that will solve this?

Answer
This is a defective radio unit.  Either the antenna connection is not working properly or the rf front end tuner section is defective.  It will require some testing or you may be able to convince Ford to replace the unit.  It is best if you have a car radio specialist look at it as a car dealer would seldom have an expert on staff.

And, yes, it could be related to the filters in the car but that alone is not the problem.

You can google about car radio filters and find many articles and advisories on the Internet that are very helpful if you wish to try that approach. However, it is likely the radio unit's front end is the problem.

Strongly urge you to have a good car radio tech look at it.
