Audio Systems: Headphones, ultrasone headphones, dj headphones

Question
Hello,
I hope you can help me.
I have a question regarding headphones. I'm trying to find DJ headphones that are bit bass heavy. I want a good quality set, that will work for Live Djing, but also for enjoyin bass heavy music, with a deep bass.

I have looked and thought about

Ecler ECH602's
Ultrasone headphones
and
Audio Technica ATH - D40fs

is there any others you would suggest to take a look at?
any ideas on what I should go for?

thanks,
Ilan

Answer
True bass in a headphone is difficult if not impossible to achieve since the kind of bass DJ's typically like is visceral meaning that it vibrates bones outside the ear.

Having said that brand names and reviews are not necessarily a meter for auditioning, listening is. If you are using the phones in a club where the program your listening to is different from the program playing then you might also want phones with a noise canceling feature. One that is large enough to go over your ear and press against your head with a gel filled or soft cushion that closes off air gaps. Those type of phones will generally give you a better low end response because they have a better seal.

Next is a listening test. You should compare headphones using the same program material. Chose material that clean rich and profound bass. There are a plethora of headphones out there. Everyone hears differently so ultimately you are the judge.
