Audio Systems: Kenwood record player, precise answer, operating manuals

Question
I am going to be given a kenwood record player that came as part of a kenwood separate. I was wondering, as I know very little about this sort of thing, whether you know if this could connect to any set of speakers, I'm presuming older ones as the record player sounds old.

Answer
Without the model number I cannot give you a precise answer. However, most of the older Kenwood turntables that I am familiar with have magnetic cartridge pickups in them and they require an amplifier that has the RIAA equalized preamp (they are not common now days, unfortunately).

If the set comes with the receiver along with the turntable then the output of the receiver will have connections for speakers to be attached.

Do a google on the model numbers and you should be able to find some technical information on them.  Also, Kenwood home page has links to owners/operating manuals - if not too old. Most audio companies keep support stuff around for 8 years; after that they are dumped.  So, if your unit is less than 8 years of age you should be able to find the full docs on it.

Good Luck,
