Audio Systems: help with car stero, antenna system, radio unit

Question
I just bought a 2002 ford f150 and radio want pick up any fm stations just a lot of static took out radio and attenna is plugged in ,cd player works it is a factory system.since it is not attenna what else could be causing this

Answer
It works okey with AM?  If the antenna system seems to be working just fine with AM but not FM that points to the FM front-end of the radio unit being defective (it can still be the antenna, however, because poor grounding of the antenna can often be frequency selective making it work for one band but not the other).

A good check of the radio receiver circuit is to use a 10 to 20 ft section of insulated wire as a dummy antenna.  Strip off 1/2 inch of insulation on one end and put it inside the hole of the input jack on the receiver.  This will give you a signal into the radio unit from the nearest strong signal.  If you don't get a good strong audio output then the circuit is bad.  If you do get a good signal with the dummy wire then the antenna in the car is still the problem; either grounding, filter in the line or something that is keeping a strong signal from getting into the front end.

Try this out and let me know more.
