Audio Systems: car stereo, alpine stereo, radio code

Question
i bought a used car with an alpine stereo in it, when i changed the car battery my stereo turned off and i dont know the security code to turn it back on, how do i find out the code?

Answer
You must obtain the code.  It is an anti-theft code and is for the purpose of discouraging thieves from stealing your radio.  Therefore, the code is intended to be unavailable to anyone but the rightful owner of the radio.

To obtain it you must contact Alpine to request it. They will require you to show proof of ownership.  You must have the serial number ready to give them.  They probably have a third party that handles these matters - for a fee - which is usually around $25 to $40.

When purchasing a new or used automobile you should always make sure the seller gives you that security code.  Even if you buy a new battery for your car you will need the code - as you have learned.

At radio-code.com you can obtain the code for certain cars/radios that they provide the service for.  But, same rules apply: you must have the serial number and proof of ownership.

Too late now, but what you could have done is maintain the voltage on the radio during the battery change.  Many battery shops now have provision for doing that so you don't have this problem.
