Audio Systems: Kenwood Receiver, kenwood vr, power connections

Question
QUESTION: Hello
I have a Kenwood VR 615 receiver. Recently I plugged the cord into the outlet and the display light went off. I've tried using the remote to operate the receiver as well as unplugging and replugging while pushing in on the the power button at the same time I'm plugging it up. There is a red light that comes on to show the power is on when the power button is push but no display light. I do hear clicking sounds when I push on the power button, but there is no display light. I've looked through the owners manual and there wasn't anything that was helpful for my problem. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank You.
Cilla.

ANSWER: Try to turn on the unit and listen carefully, you should here an initial click followed shortly thereafter by another. It is posible that the power connections are bad on the front display (common problem).  Does the unit work at all?  If not and you only hear te initial click, the init is in protective shutdown due to an internally detected problem.

QUESTION: Thank you for responding. Everything works. As you stated on the initial start up it clicks once and a second later there is another click, the power light goes off but the display light does not come back on, on either click. Is there a way for me to tell if the protective shutdown is what is taking place?
Thank You.
Cilla.

Answer
If everything works, then the shutdown is not happening.  If you can solder, look at the PC board attached to the front panel.  There should be a string of pins right behind the display.  Look at the connections at either end.  Resolder them.  That should resolve the problem.  The end 2-4 pins on each side are the power connections.
