Audio Systems: cd changer issue, dodge intrepid, startup sequence

Question
I have 2003 Dodge Intrepid w/ the factory in-dash 6-disc changer. When I turn on the car, all the lights on the changer portion blink for about 10-20 seconds. After that, it then blinks the lights on the left side of the changer then the lights on the right. It alternates side to side and does this the whole time. I can't eject/play/change any cd. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
When the unit attempts to start up, there is a startup sequence designed to get everything into a known state.  I would guess that this is failing.  The most common reason for this is a broken or slipping belt.  You should have the changer examined by a servicer as this is usually a timing problem.  Replacing the belt should be relatively easy as long as you are careful and don't move the gearing inside the unit.
