Audio Systems: Sony MHCGX450 stereo problem, sony mhcgx450, input cables

Question
Hi, I hooked up this stereo to my TV and I am dead sure I set it up correctly because I have been using it (with the TV) for a year now. All of a sudden, the speaker makes a slight pop sound and the whole system shuts off. Now I notice that the power button blinks on and off in an amber color. It doesn't turn on even after I unplug it, replug it and try to turn it on. All it does is blink the amber color on and off.

Answer
You have a shorted speaker line OR faulty inputs to the unit.

Here is what you can do to check it out.

ONE:  Check the connections to the tv. It must be connected to the audi OUTs, not the audio INs.

TWO:  Check the speaker wiring for shorts or wires touching.

THREE: If no results from above, disconnect the input connections at the back on the stereo.  Disconnect all speaker wires at the back of the stereo.  Now, with no inputs or outputs the unit should be okey.  Unplug the power cord for 1/2 hour to reset the internal stuff, then power it up. If the light still blinks the set is defective internally and will need servicing or replacement.  (If a shorted speaker were connected to it for a while it could cause internal blowouts!)

If lights are good, connect one speaker at a time; then add the other; then turn it off and connect the input cables, etc.  This step by step approach will allow you to find the breaking point and identify the causes and cures - I hope.
