Audio Systems: AC Delco theftlock, 2000 chevy cavalier, pontiac sunfire

Question
QUESTION: I'm junking out a 2001 Pontiac sunfire with a std factory am/fm cd player radio in it.
I would like to move this radio into a 2000 Chevy cavalier.
Is there a way to get around the embedded codes that tie these radios to their vehicle vin #'s or is my dealer the only option?

ANSWER: most likely you are not going to have the vin number code in the cavalier they do that from 2002 and up  the same for the sunfire  but there is a delco theft lock  in case the radio locks
call 407-933-1065 to get the radio code

QUESTION: Hello its me again,
I did swap the 2001 sunfire into the 2000 cavalier.
Radio worked in the cavalier while key in "Accessory" position but once I turn the ignition to the "ON" position...."LOC" displayed permanently on the radio face. Also, when turning the car on "CAL" also displays for a short time.
I called the 407 area code number you supplied, did talk with a gentlemen who said the code I needed to correct this was in my owners manual for the sunfire. I checked but the only thing I could find said if these messages are displayed I need to return to dealership for service. This is what I was trying to avoid.
I haven't had any luck calling back to the 407 area code number, no answer, so I thought I'd run this by you one more time.
For what its worth I got the exact same messages when I put the cavalier radio into the sunfire, but I'm scrapping this car out so that's not a concern.
Appreciate your help.
Regards,
Jeff

Answer
that is correct you have to find the instructions on the owners manual  on how to retrive the radio serial number  it will be 6 digits and you have to call that number for the radio code  if this is a rds radio data buss class 2 radio you need to take to the dealer and have them enter your new vin number on the radio
