Audio Systems: Acoustic Research AR-3 Speakers Connected, wire jumper, performance speakers

Question
I picked up a pair of AR-3 speakers at an estate sale recently and am reluctant to hook them up to my receiver without first being sure how to connect them.  Can one use standard speaker wiring?  The back panel does not have standard pos/neg connectors, instead it has three threaded post connectors labeled 1, 2, and T, with a wire jumper between the 2 and the T posts.  Can standard speaker wiring be used?  If so, which should be pos vs. neg - does it matter?  If not, what is the ideal way to connect these speakers?  I appreciate the response of an expert!

Answer
In all honesty my knowledge in consumer speakers is rather weak. My specialty is in very high end performance speakers,  commercial sound reinforcement and distributed systems. I don't know if I even want to guess at why there is a third binding post. I did a little bit of research and have not come up with a website for that manufacturer. If you have a manual, check it. Polarity should always be followed to avoid an out of phase system. Black to negative on both ends.
