Audio Systems: cd player wnt turn on, volt ohm meter, aftermarket radio

Question
i just installed my aftermarket radio in my dash.  i have installed a lot of radios before and this was the second time i am installing this one in my car.  I connected all of the wires but it wont turn on. The interior lights that go on when the door is opened do not work, either does the clock.  what could it be?

Answer
You have disabled one of the power wires that feed those items not working - or blown the fuse.  Maybe you added the cd player onto the same circuit that operates the door lights, etc. and overloaded it causing the fuse to go out.  So, check that out.

The powers to your cd player are: ONE goes from battery through a fuse to the cd  player unit. TWO comes from the ignition system and is for turning the unit ON.

You can check all these things out most easily using a simple volt-ohm meter.  I recommend you have one that is perfect for automotive work.  You can buy one for under $10 at Walmart or Home Depot.

Hope this helps.
