Audio Systems: 1996 Infiniti I30 Bose system, fuse boxes, wire strands

Question
QUESTION: My stereo was working Sun. night, Mon. morning when I turned the car on the antenna won't go up and the FM, casette or Cd won't come on. System is completely dead. Fuses are good, I changed them out with new, verified good ones

ANSWER: did you get all the fuses?  there are two fuse boxes in the i30; one under the hood near the battery and one inside the car under the dash between the steering column and the drivers door.

also, there is sometimes another fuse behind the radio unit - which must be pulled from the dash to get at it.

lastly, since the antenna does not go up either it is an indication of loss of 12v system.  so a wire could have broken off the battery terminal or other places along its way.  if you have a vom (you can buy a perfect voltage tester for auto use walmart and home depot for under $10) and check for the presence of 12v along the pathway of the wires that provide power for the entertainment system.

happy hunting,

QUESTION: Thanks for the feedback. There was no fuse behind the unit, The box under the hood does not indicate that there is a fuse for the radio or antenna. I think you are probably on the right track about the power supply, referencing the antenna not working either.

Answer
Yes, I think you are losing power to the entire system somewhere along the way.  A broken wire or, often the case, a terminal that is connected to a block but the wire inside the terminal housing got clamped too hard and the wire strands broke inside and continuity was lost.
