Audio Systems: prior question!!!!!, sound receiver, cable box

Question
QUESTION: My antenna signal is going to the surround sound receiver.  I
do use a cable box.  The audio from the cable box is hooked into the
surround sound system.  I suddenly have no audio from my TV.  Any more help you can give me would be so
appreciated.  I am a single mom and a little lost with TV stuff!  Thank you
very much.

ANSWER: There is a bit of a communication problem here. Audio IS sound! If you have sound from your surround sound system.... I'm puzzled, why do you want sound from your TV? You say 'from your TV' as if sound is coming from the TV. It should not be!
The sound is coming from your cable box, going to your surround sound receiver and then going to speakers.

QUESTION: There is no sound coming from anything.....I don't have audio.  If I turn the surround sound system off and turn the volume up on the TV it is just a buzz.  If I change the surround sound system to radio, for instance, I get sound from it.  So I am assuming it is in the TV??  No??  I am so sorry I know I probably am not explaining this right.  Just no audio when my surround sound sytem is on TV and no audio when I just try to get it out of the TV without the surround sound system.  Any ideas further?  Thank you so much.

Answer
It would have helped if you said this in the beginning. The first thing you want to do is test the audio input from the cable box. To do this; replace that audio signal with another (meaning remove the audio plugs from the receiver coming from the cable box). Then plug in another audio device (CD player, iPod, DVD, cassette) whatever you have. Try playing that audio. If it plays then it means that you either have the cable box muted, the volume control all the way down or the cable box has a problem. Your troubleshooting up until now has determined that both your TV and surround system are working.
