Audio Systems: tv buzz, isolation device, proscan television

Question
Hello,
Thank you in advance for looking at my question, I hope that you are
able to help. I have a Proscan television that is about 10 years old.
We have cable hooked up through the VCR like a cable box, because the
cable "Antenna A" knob is broken (I'm not sure if this has an effect on
the sound). There is an unbearably loud buzz coming through the bottom
speakers! I called the company and they said the plugs were too close to
the wall, but that has no effect on the buzz. When the TV is on "Mute"
there is still a buzz coming through the bottom speakers. We hooked up
external speakers to see if there would be a difference, and the buzz
just comes through the external speakers like it did on the TV. Any
insight is much appreciated.
Thank you,
Carolyn

Answer
First thing to do is disconnect the cable box, turn the volume up and see if it still buzzes. If it doesn't you need an isolation device from the cable box to the TV. If it still buzzes then most likely something is going in the TV. Repair is not recommended for a TV that old.
